Nick Light is the SVP of artist development with Sony Music and former VP of Artist Development and Touring at Warner Brothers Records. He discusses where record companies should stand in the touring market today. He believes that the record company should take the responsibility to maximize press exposure, sales, and radio promotion. Nick makes the observation that a tour is more of a business environment than a party scene for an artist. He explains how record labels are more involved in the planning, costs and promotion of the tour then previously. Nick then describes the financial relationship between the artist and the label and the advantages an artist has being at a major label.
