Wireless Music Instruments: Pro’s and Con’s
Many musicians come up with the question of whether or not to use wireless instruments on stage. For many decades it was common to connect instruments to amplifiers or mixing boards using wired systems. Still, technology is evolving, and musicians can now use wireless systems.
However, do you know which system is best for you? Here are some advantages and disadvantages of wireless systems:
Advantages of Wireless Systems
– The stage floor looks much cleaner. No cables are running over the floor, which is much safer for musicians to perform.
– When you are using wireless instruments, it is much more comfortable to walk around on stage. Even if you are not moving much during a performance, it is much more comfortable when you are not attached to a cable.
– There are many cases of musicians, get shocked by wired microphones. This happens due to grounding issues, which doesn’t happen when you are using a wireless microphone.
Disadvantages of Wireless Systems
– Wireless transmitters require battery power to operate, so this is why wired systems will always be considered more reliable. Of course, if you are using new batteries, you should not have any problems.
– Wireless microphone systems are limited to the amount of available wireless bandwidth. You will notice that if you are in a broadcast-heavy environment, with many wireless signals in the air, you will not be able to use the maximum number of wireless mics, comparing to a wired system which allows you to use as many mics and instruments as your mixing console can handle.
Wired or Wireless? There is no right and wrong.
No matter which system you choose to use on stage, it is essential to make sure everything works well.
